Dr. Tommy G. West, DPT, FCECE, CEES, CDE II, is the Clinical Director of Purchase Area Physical Therapy in Paducah, KY and Murray, KY. Dr. West earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree and Bachelor of Science Degree, With Distinction from the University of Kentucky, College of Allied Health Professions, Division of Physical Therapy. Dr. West became a Certified Disability Examiner Category II for Work Disability Evaluation and Impairment Ratings from the Commission on Disability in 2002. He became a Matheson Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist in 1998. He continued his education by becoming a Functional Capacity Evaluation Certified Evaluator utilizing the Blankenship System in 1994.

Dr. West established Purchase Area Physical Therapy in Paducah, KY in 1992, which is now a 10, 500 square foot state-of-the-art rehabilitation, testing and training facility. Dr. West went on to open a second location in Murray, KY in 1998.

In 2004, Vanderbilt University Sports Medicine orthopedic surgeons began treating patients in the Murray facility and expanded their services to include the Paducah facility in 2006. This affiliation has allowed Purchase Area Physical Therapy’s clinical staff to consult with the Vanderbilt physicians on a regular basis and develop a sports medicine rehabilitation program to care for local high school athletes.

Dr. West has extensive training and experience in nerve conduction velocity testing, the rehabilitation of orthopedic and sports medicine related conditions, foot evaluation and orthotic casting, osteoporosis and vestibular rehabilitation, hand static and dynamic splinting and biofeedback. He also has broad expertise in the areas of industrial rehabilitation, work re-conditioning rehabilitation, post-offer pre-placement testing and job analysis as well as the utilization of the Isotechnology B200, Biodex System III Pro, and the Hanoun Multi-Cervical Unit.

Dr. West is a Clinical Education Instructor for the University of Kentucky and West Kentucky Community and Technical College. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association (KPTA), the University of Kentucky Chapter of Alpha Eta Society and Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He is also a lifetime member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and Gold Key National Honor Society for Scholastic Achievement.

To his credit, Dr. West has attended numerous Vanderbilt University Sports Medicine conferences and continuing education courses focusing on developing treatments for knee, shoulder, elbow, hand, ankle and general orthopedic injury rehabilitation.
